• Let your baby explore the toy and if necessary show your baby that it moves, encouraging your little one to push it along the ground and crawl after it.
• Turn on the vehicle and show your child the safari jeep in action - demonstrate how to press the head down to make it go. (At this stage your infant may be too young to do this themselves but they will love to watch the jeep spring to life and move across the floor.)
• Imitate the sounds the jeep makes and praise your infant for any effort made to join in.
18+ months
Show your child how to turn on the safari jeep and make it go. Encourage them to do it by themselves and to chase after it.
Imitate the sound effects of the jeep and encourage your infant to do the same - "brum brum, beep beep"
Talk about the appearance of the jeep and it's driver - e.g. what colour it is, how many wheels has it got? Introduce younger children to new language such as steering wheel, headlights, horn, safari etc.
Talk with older children about the safari vehicle - what does it do? Who uses a safari vehicle? Where would you see one? Why do you think it's that colour? What is camouflage?
Relate the toy to images of real safari vehicles and show your infant the similarities with the toy.
Encourage your child to use his/her imagination to play. Let your child take the lead but help with ideas if necessary. You may like to bring in other Tolo safari animals, vehicles and accessories to help your child create a colourful and imaginative world of safari fun!
