Lotte Sievers-Hahn: hand puppets for the puppet theatre
The hand puppets of Lotte Sievers-Hahn have been made in the workshop at Brockel in northern Germany since 1929. Every head is carved from lime wood and painted separately in artists' oils, so no two puppets look exactly alike.
The standing cast
Kasper, the princess, the king, the witch, the doctor, the farmer: together they form a company that can play almost any fairy tale. You can start with two or three puppets and add to the cast at your own pace.
Why a puppet theatre
Behind the curtain children say things they would not say themselves. They invent a story, give each puppet a voice and keep an audience in mind: language, imagination and co-operation in one activity, which is why the puppets are a fixture in Waldorf classrooms.
