Connetix
Connetix makes magnetic tiles: translucent coloured squares, triangles and rectangles with magnets sealed inside the bevelled edge, so the pieces snap together whichever way round you hold them.
Flat first, then upright
Younger builders start by laying the tiles out flat on the floor as a mosaic, then folding the shape up into a cube or a house. The magnets are strong enough that a tall tower keeps standing while a child adds to it.
How the sets fit together
Starter packs of roughly 24 to 62 pieces cover the basics, and ball runs, car bases and pastel packs build on what is already there. Every Connetix piece works with every other, so a collection can grow one set at a time.
