Where to throw
A boomerang needs an open field with nothing overhead and no one standing close by. Light wind is ideal; in still air the return is weak, and in strong wind it becomes unpredictable. Throw slightly into the wind and almost upright, not flat.
Choosing a model
Foam models are the safest for children and forgiving of a poor throw, while the plastic versions fly further and reward practice. Sizes are matched to age, since a boomerang that is too large simply will not turn.
