Finger Paint
Finger paint for the youngest: pots and sets of washable finger paint, finger paint paper and paint in soap or bath form.
Painting before holding a brush
Finger paint lets a toddler make marks a year before they can control a brush, using only their hands. Feeling the paint move under the fingers is as much of the activity as the picture is. It is one of the first ways a child discovers that they can change something on purpose.
Keeping it manageable
Washable finger paint comes off skin with water and out of most fabrics if it is dealt with straight away. Thicker finger paint paper takes the wet without tearing, which ordinary paper will not. Bath finger paint moves the whole activity somewhere that can simply be rinsed down.
