Drawing standing up
A board at the right height lets a child draw with their whole arm, which builds the shoulder and wrist control that handwriting depends on. Because the surface wipes clean, there is no reason to be careful and no paper to run out of. A board tends to be used daily in a way a sketchbook is not.

Double-sided easels give a chalkboard and a whiteboard in one frame, usually with a paper roll holder as well. Magnetic whiteboards double as a place for letters, numbers and the week's drawings. Check the height is adjustable if you want the board to still fit at eight years old.
