A brand from 1880
Steiff was founded by Margarete Steiff, who started with a pincushion in the shape of an elephant. Since 1904 every animal has carried the metal button in its ear. The name stands for the quality of the materials, the hand finishing and how long the toys last.
To play with or to keep
Steiff makes two kinds of animal. The baby-safe soft toys in washable plush are meant to be slept with and dragged around. The collector's models are made in mohair in a numbered edition and are bought to be kept rather than handled.
