Roller Skates
Roller skates carry four wheels set in pairs, two at the front and two at the back, which makes them far steadier than inline skates. That makes them the obvious choice for a child standing on wheels for the first time.
Steady on four wheels
Because the wheels sit wide apart, a child tips sideways far less easily than on a single row. The easiest start is on a flat, smooth surface with no slope at all. On most models the brake is at the front, so stopping means tilting the toe of the skate downwards.
Size and protection
Measure your child's foot and keep the size chart beside the article, since roller skates run differently from ordinary shoes. Adjustable models grow through several sizes. A helmet, wrist guards, knee and elbow pads belong with the first pair.
