Plan Toys Musical Instruments
Plan Toys makes musical instruments from rubberwood: xylophones, drums, maracas, tambourines, kalimbas, harmonicas and complete band sets. The instruments are tuned, which means they sound true rather than merely making a noise.
The right instrument for the age
For toddlers from about eighteen months, maracas, tone bars and a small drum are the fitting choice: feeling a rhythm comes before playing a melody. From three a xylophone becomes interesting, and from five a child can pick out first tunes on a kalimba or a harmonica.
More than an ear for music
Beating out a rhythm together trains timing, listening and taking turns. Because the instruments are properly tuned, what a child plays actually sounds like something, which is what keeps it playing.
