Choosing the right seat
A baby swing has a high back and a safety bar, so a child of one can sit safely without holding on. From around three, a flat seat gives more freedom to push and lean. A nest swing is the one that keeps working for years, because two children fit in it and you can lie down as well as sit.
Hanging it safely
Leave at least two metres of free space in front of and behind the seat, and half a metre on each side. The ground underneath matters more than most people expect: grass, bark or rubber tiles all soften a fall much better than paving. Check the hooks and ropes at the start of every season.
