Jacquard Textile Paint
Jacquard is the brand for anyone working on cloth: textile paint, dyes for tie-dye and batik, screen printing ink and the fixatives that go with them. Used by beginners and by people who dye for a living.
Dyeing and tie-dye
The dyes are made to bond with the fibre rather than sit on top of it, so a tie-dyed shirt keeps its colour through repeated washing. Cotton, linen and viscose take the colour best; a synthetic fabric will come out far paler.
Fixing the colour
Most of the paints have to be set, either with an iron or by leaving the work to cure for a day, and skipping that step is the usual reason colour disappears in the first wash. The instructions on the bottle state the time and the temperature.
