Sensory Blocks
Sensory blocks are building blocks with something extra inside: coloured windows, mirrors, rattles, beads in liquid or a textured face. They stack like ordinary blocks and then do something an ordinary block cannot.
Build first, look through afterwards
A tower of these blocks is also a row of coloured windows. Held up to a lamp or a window the colours fall across the table, and children quickly start choosing which block goes where by the colour it will throw rather than by its size.
Sound and texture
Some blocks rattle or click when they move, others have a rough or ridged face. That means a child gets an answer from every block they pick up, which keeps a toddler at a set of blocks noticeably longer.
