Wood or synthetic
Classic hurleys are made of ash: light, with a great deal of feel, but they can break. Synthetic hurleys are all but unbreakable, which makes them popular for training, for youth teams and on hard ground.
The right length
Stand the hurley upright beside the player: the top should reach roughly to the hip. Sizes are given in inches, from around 24 inches for young children up to 36 inches for adults.
