Music Boxes for Babies
Music boxes for the cot and the nursery: pull-cord boxes, soft musical toys and wooden boxes with a wind-up mechanism.
A tune that means bedtime
A music box works as a signal long before a baby understands words, and the same melody every evening tells them what comes next. Because the sound slows and fades, it lets a room grow quiet instead of stopping abruptly. Most parents find one tune sticks and becomes part of the household for years.
Pull cord or wind-up
Pull-cord boxes sewn into a soft toy can be attached to a cot and worked by a toddler without help. Wooden wind-up boxes have a clearer, brighter sound and often last long enough to be handed on. Check whether the mechanism can be removed before the toy goes in the wash.
